St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 15, 2018 – Washington University in St. Louis had three student-athletes recognized as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week, as announced by the Association.
Junior Paige Lawler of the No. 2-ranked women's cross-country team, senior Brad Hodkinson of the No. 6 men's cross-country team and senior Maggie Crist of the No. 1 women's soccer team each earned the honor.
Lawler paced the Bears to a first-place finish at the Brooks Invite, which featured 17 of the USTFCCCA's top-35 ranked teams. She crossed the 6K course finish line in 21:31.6 to place second overall out of 349 competitors. The WashU women took first place out of 52 teams, finishing ahead of 16 top-35 ranked teams.
Hodkinson placed ninth overall at the Brooks Invite, which featured 17 of the USTFCCCA Top-35 teams. He finished the 8K course in 25:19.8, good for ninth out of 344 runners. The WashU men placed second overall behind No. 1 ranked North Central College, but ahead of 15 top-35 teams.
Crist, the UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week, was part of the WashU defense that allowed one goal in two road wins last week to remain in a tie for first place in the UAA standings. She also had a goal and an assist on the weekend. The Bears did not allow a shot on goal in a 2-0 win at Case Friday, and then limited No. 21 Carnegie Mellon to four shots on goal in a 4-1 win Sunday.
