St. Louis, Mo., May 14, 2018 – Washington University in St. Louis had three student-athletes honored as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week, as announced by the Association on Monday.
Sophomore J.J. Kroot of the No. 10-ranked men's tennis team and junior Heidi Nassos and senior Aly Wayne of the No. 7 women's outdoor track and field team each earned the honor.
Kroot posted a 4-0 record as WashU recorded wins over Hope (5-0) and at No. 13 Kenyon (5-1) to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the 12th-straight year. He won a pair of matches at No. 6 singles in straight sets, and also teamed with senior Johnny Wu for two victories at No. 3 doubles.
Nassos set a personal-best in pole vault on Thursday at the North Central College Dr. Keeler Meet in Naperville, Ill. She cleared 3.92m to claim the event title while also posting the fourth best distance on Friday in the triple jump, leaping 11.51m. Her pole vault height ranks fifth in NCAA Division III.
Wayne set a school record in the 5,000m run Thursday at the Dr. Keeler Meet, placing fourth overall (only behind Division II runners) as she finished the race in 16:51.50. Her time ranks 10th in NCAA Division III on the year.
