St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 13, 2017 — Washington University in St. Louis had a pair of student-athletes honored as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week, as announced by the Association on Monday.
Sophomore back Hannah Menard of the No. 5-ranked women's soccer team and senior David O'Gara of the No. 9 men's cross country team earned the honor.
Menard and the WashU defense recorded a pair of shutouts and limited its opponents to just three shots in a pair of NCAA Tournament victories at home. The Bears limited Dominican to one shot in a 5-0 win Friday in the NCAA First Round, and then held Wittenberg to two shots in a 1-0 victory Sunday in the second round. Menard earned the award for the second-consecutive week.
O'Gara placed fifth overall with a career-best time of 23:46.9 and an average pace of 4:48 per mile at the 2017 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Saturday in Rock Island, Ill. He helped the Bears place third and earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III National Championship. O'Gara earned the honor for the fifth time this year and sixth in his career.
