Washington U. Women's Tennis Opens Season with Strong Showing at Lynn Imergoot Invitational

St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 17, 2012 - The Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team opened the season by winning five of six flights at the 2012 Lynn Imergoot Invitational held Friday-Sunday at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park.
Teams from Lindenwood University-Belleville, McKendree University, Principia College, University of Missouri-St. Louis, and Washington University competed in the three-day tournament. Overall, Washington U. posted a 25-9 record in the tournament, but five of the matches featured the Bears taking on their teammates.
Junior Aarthi Kasilingam posted a 5-0 record in winning the D Singles Flight and teaming with sophomore Hanna Newstadt to win the B Doubles Flight for the Bears. Kasilingam earned a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) win over freshman Erin Wong to claim the D Singles championship. Kasilingam and Newstadt defeated Wong and senior Paige Madara, 9-7, in the championship of the B Doubles.
Washington U. swept all four titles in the singles flights. In addition to Kasilingam's victory in the D Singles, senior Kate Klein, junior Betsy Edershile and freshman Jamie Silverberg claimed singles titles at the tournament. Klein defeated McKendree's Adriana Gonzalez (6-3, 6-4) in the A Singles Flight championship. Edershile posted a 7-6 (10-8), 2-6, 1-0 (10-4) win over Renee Verboven of UMSL in the B Singles final, and Silverberg beat freshman Aly Coran (6-3, 6-1) in the final of the C Singles.
Washington U. returns to action when it hosts the ITA Central Regional on Friday-Monday, Sept. 8-Oct. 1.
