Washington U. Women’s Tennis Lands Four on All-UAA Team
St. Louis, Mo., May 4, 2012 — Washington University in St. Louis senior Natalie Tingir received 2012 All-University Athletic Association (UAA) honors in both singles and doubles to lead four WU student-athletes on the women’s tennis all-conference teams, as announced by the Association.
Tingir was named first-team all-UAA at No. 1 singles and received second-team honors at No. 2 doubles along with sophomore Theresa Petraskova. Washington U.’s No. 1 doubles team of junior Kate Klein and sophomore Corinne Rauck also picked up second-team all-UAA accolades.
Tingir posted a 2-1 record at No. 1 singles for Washington U. at the 2012 UAA Championship. She earned wins over two of the top six singles players in the Atlantic South Region, including knocking off the region’s top-ranked player, Emory University’s Gabrielle Clark, in straight sets. In the Bears’ third-place match against Carnegie Mellon University, Tingir came back from a one-set deficit to win the match in back-to-back tiebreakers. The win was her 100th career victory and sealed the upset over the fourth-ranked Tartans for Washington U.
Klein and Rauck earned second-team all-UAA honors at No. 1 doubles after going 2-1 at the UAA Championship. The duo earned wins over two teams ranked in the top six of their respective regions. In the third-place match, Klein and Rauck earned an 8-5 win over the Atlantic South’s No. 2-ranked doubles team from Carnegie Mellon.
Tingir and Petraskova also received second-team all-UAA honors after finishing 2-1 at No. 2 doubles. They earned wins against Brandeis University and Carnegie Mellon, while dropping an 8-6 decision against Emory University.
Petraskova, Rauck and Tingir had each earned all-UAA honors once previously in their careers. Petraskova received second-team honors in 2011 at No. 4 singles, while Rauck was a second-team honoree at No. 3 doubles last year. Tingir earned second-team all-UAA recognition at No. 4 singles in 2010.
