Women's Tennis Defeats Mary Hardin-Baylor 8-1 on Sunday Afternoon
RESULTS
San Antonio, Texas, April 3, 2011 – The No. 17 Washington University in St. Louis women’s tennis team wrapped up a three-match weekend road trip to San Antonio, Texas, with an 8-1 win over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Sunday afternoon.
The Bears controlled the action against Mary Hardin-Baylor, sweeping all three doubles contests before winning five of the six singles points in straight sets.
At first doubles junior Natalie Tingir and freshman Evelyn Qin teamed up to beat Mallory Aarhus and Megan Aarhus, 8-1. Qin was also a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Mallory Aarhus at second singles.
Playing at No. 2 doubles, freshman Theresa Petraskova and senior Elise Sambol were 8-2 winners over AshLee Bilbo and Rebecca Everett. Petraskova also earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Everett at third singles and Sambol picked up a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Megan Richardson in the No. 4 singles match.
Completing the doubles sweep for Washington University was sophomore Paige Madara and freshman Corinne Rauck, who beat Penelope Kittel and Richardson 8-6 in the No. 3 contest.
Madara picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win over Lauren Knight at No. 5 singles and Rauck beat Bilbo 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
Washington U. (10-3) returns to action next Friday, April 8, when it begins competition at the two-day Midwest Invitational tournament in Madison, Wis.
