Tingir, Dender, Sambol and Bild Earn All-UAA Accolades
St. Louis, Mo., April 22, 2010 – The No. 14 Washington University in St. Louis women’s tennis team had four student-athletes earn 2010 All-University Athletic Association (UAA) honors, as announced Thursday by the association. Washington U. placed fifth at the conference championship tournament with a 2-1 record.
Sophomore Natalie Tingir was a second-team all-UAA selection at No. 4 singles, while senior Allison Dender garnered second-team honors at sixth singles. The junior doubles tandem of Elise Sambol and Jaclyn Bild received second-team all-UAA accolades at No. 2 doubles.
Tingir posted a 3-0 record at No. 4 singles during the championship tournament. She won all three of her matches in straight sets and improved to 17-4 in singles contests in 2010, with an 8-2 record in the fourth position. It is the first time in her career she receives all-UAA honors.
Dender was also 3-0 in singles at the UAA Championship and posted a perfect 6-0 record overall because of three doubles victories. In doing so she became just the 17th student-athlete in school history to eclipse 100 career victories. In four years on the Danforth Campus, Dender has an overall record of 102-62, for a winning percentage of .622. This season has been one of her best at Washington U. as she is 16-7 in singles play and 18-5 in doubles.
Bild and Sambol are all-UAA honorees for the second time in their careers. As a freshman, Bild earned second-team all-UAA honors in doubles, and that same year Sambol garnered first-team all-UAA recognition at No. 6 singles. At this year’s championship, the duo posted a 3-0 record, and for the year they are 9-3 as doubles partners.
Washington U. (13-5) concludes its regular season on Friday, April 23, when it hosts NAIA McKendree University at the Tao Tennis Center in St. Louis, Mo., at 3:30 p.m.
