Women's Tennis Picks Up 7-2 Win Over No. 26 University of Texas-Tyler
RESULTS
San Antonio, Texas, April 2, 2011 – The No. 17 Washington University in St. Louis women’s tennis team bounced back from a tough 5-4 loss to No. 30 Trinity University on Friday by defeating No. 26 University of Texas-Tyler, 7-2, on Saturday afternoon in San Antonio, Texas.
All three of the doubles contests with Texas-Tyler lasted into a super tiebreaker scenario, with Washington University grabbing two of the three matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles.
Freshman Theresa Petraskova and senior Elise Sambol outlasted UT-Tyler’s Michelle Hagler and Jessica Blundell 9-8 (7-1) at second doubles and sophomore Paige Madara and freshman Corinne Rauck survived a tight No. 3 doubles match, beating Ashley Albro and Lauren Giovannini 9-8 (7-5).
From there Washington University picked up four of its five singles victories in straight sets. Frehman Evelyn Qin beat Sydni Hermsdorf 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 at second singles. Petraskova was a 6-1, 7-5 winner over Giovannini at No. 3 singles and Madara defeated Brittany Trich 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 5 slot.
Rauck beat Morgan Wilkins, 6-3, 6-0 in the sixth position and sophomore Natalie Tingir held on for a 6-1, 4-6, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles to improve to 6-2 playing in the first position this year.
Washington University (9-3) concludes its trip to Texas with a match against the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor on Sunday, April 3, at 12:30 p.m.
