Women's Tennis Defeats Division II Missouri-St. Louis 6-3

St. Louis, Mo., April 18, 2011 – The No. 15 Washington University in St. Louis women’s tennis team defeated NCAA Division II University of Missouri-St. Louis 6-3 on Monday afternoon at the UMSL Tennis Courts in St. Louis, Mo.
Monday afternoon’s match was the final warm-up for the Bears before they host 2011 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship this Friday-Sunday, April 22-24, in St. Louis, Mo. Seeding for the UAA Championship will be determined later this week.
The Bears took two of three double contests against UMSL on Monday, winning at No. 1 and No. 3. Senior Elise Sambol and freshman Theresa Petraskova defeated Louisa Werner and Pujitha Bandi, 8-3, at No. 1, while sophomore Katie Helfgott and freshman Brittany Trimble were 8-2 winners over Leticia Garcia and Danielle Henkel in the No. 3 match.
Trimble and Helfgott also earned points in singles for Washington University. Trimble picked up a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Katie Rynkiewich in the No. 4 match while Helfgott beat Garcia 6-0, 7-5, at No. 5.
Rounding out the singles winners for Washington U., junior Natalie Tingir outlasted Pujitha 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 in the No. 1 match, and sophomore Paige Madara was a 6-3, 2-6, 10-6 winner over Aya Gombo in the No. 3 position.
Washington University improves to 13-4 overall with the win and returns to action on Friday, April 22, for the start of the UAA Championship in St. Louis, Mo.
