Washington U.’s Jamie Silverberg Named UAA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week
St. Louis, Mo., March 18, 2013 – Washington University in St. Louis freshman Jamie Silverberg was selected as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week, as announced Monday by the Association.
Silverberg posted a perfect 6-0 record in No. 12-ranked Washington U.’s three matches last week in California. She earned a sweep at No. 4 singles and teamed with freshman Aly Coran to post a win at No. 3 doubles in the Bears’ 7-2 win over No. 27 Whitman College March 11. Silverberg also posted wins at No. 3 singles against the University of Rochester and No. 10 Bowdoin College. She and junior Theresa Petraskova earned a win at No. 3 doubles in the Bears’ 9-0 win over Rochester, and Silverberg and Coran won at No. 3 doubles in WUSTL’s 5-4 loss to Bowdoin.
The six wins improved Silverberg’s record to 22-4 this season, including a 14-1 mark in singles. She has won eight-straight singles matches, posting victories in all eight of the Bears’ dual matches this season.
Silverberg shared the UAA Athlete of the Week honor with Emory University’s Gabrielle Clark. Silverberg is the fourth Washington U. women’s tennis player to receive the accolade in 2012-13.
