Lauren Steimle Has a Pair of Goals in 3-0 Victory at Home Against Fontbonne

St. Louis, Mo., September 26, 2011 — The No. 14 ranked Washington University in St. Louis women’s soccer team picked up its eighth win of the season in a 3-0 win over Fontbonne University on Monday night at Francis Field in St. Louis, Mo.
Washington U. outshot Fontbonne 25-0 in the opening 45 minutes of play, but only found the back of the net on two occasions. Junior Allie Betley made it 1-0 at the 4:41 mark with her first goal of the season, as she one-time home a cross from freshman Lillie Toaspern. The goal for Betley was the first of the season.
Sophomore Lauren Steimle extended the advantage to 2-0 at 10:15 after sending a shot from inside the box to the near upper corner. Toaspern sent a through ball to Betley, who gathered the ball before sending a cross to Steimle.
Steimle pushed the lead to 3-0 with a goal at the 53:11 mark in the second half. Toaspern sent a ball through the Fontbonne defense to Steimle, who found the net for her fourth goal of the season.
Washington U. outshot Fontbonne 38-6 for the game, and had a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. Juniors goalkeepers Clara Jaques (one save, 63:31) and Hilary Stepansky (one save, 26:29) combined to record the Bears fourth shutout of the season.
Washington University (8-1) returns to action at home on Wednesday, Sept. 28, against No. 13 Illinois Wesleyan University. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m., and will be broadcast live at http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/wustl.portal#.
Bear Notebook: Washington University leads the all-time series with Fontbonne 14-0 and the Bears have outscored the Griffins 77-3 in those contests … The Bears improved to 4-1 this season at home.
