Women's Soccer Wins at No. 25 Chicago, 1-0, in Regular Season Finale
Chicago, Ill., November 5, 2011 — Sophomore Jen Reed scored an unassisted goal from 35 yards out in the 76th minute to lead the No. 14 ranked Washington University in St. Louis women’s soccer team to a 1-0 win at No. 25 University of Chicago on Saturday in Chicago, Ill.
Reed’s goal, the third of the season and fourth of her career, secured the Bears’ a second-place finish in the University Athletic Association (UAA) standings with a 5-2 record. Emory University gained the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 6-0-1 record.
“The win over Chicago is a good one as we continue to grow and play better as a team,” said fourth-year head coach Jim Conlon. “We are pleased to end the regular season with a win over a quality opponent.”
Washington U. (15-4) and Chicago each recorded 12 shots, while Washington U. had a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Clara Jaques made six saves en route to her fifth shutout of the year.
The NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Selection Show will be streamed live on www.ncaa.com on Monday, Nov. 8, at 12:30 p.m. (CT). The Bears have made 10 NCAA appearances in school history, and last season advanced to the second round.
Bear Notebook: The two teams have split the all-time series 11-11-2 … Washington U. snapped a four-game losing streak to Chicago and defeated the Maroons for the first time since 2006.
