Bears Fall to No. 3 Otterbein, 2-0, in NCAA Second Round

Westerville, Ohio, November 13, 2010 – The Washington University in St. Louis women’s soccer team ended its season with a 2-0 loss at No. 3 ranked Otterbein University in the second round of the 2010 NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Westerville, Ohio.

Otterbein (20-0-1) dominated the first 20 minutes of the game, and a goal by Lindsey Rudibaugh at the 10:58 gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. Just over four minutes later, Adrienne Novak won a loose ball in the box off a corner kick and drilled shot past sophomore goalkeeper Clara Jaques to make it 2-0.

Washington U. picked up the play in the final 20 minutes in the first half, and outshot Otterbein 8-5 in the opening 45 minutes of play. Jaques made two saves in the first half, while Otterbein goalkeeper Tara Carter kept the Bears scoreless making three saves.

The Bears outshot Otterbein, 14-10, for the game, and had a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks. Washington U. ends its season with an 11-8-2 overall record, and finished in a tie for fourth place in the University Athletic Association (UAA) standings.

Bear Notebook: Washington University is 15-9-5 all-time in NCAA Tournament play … The Bears were making their fifth-straight NCAA appearance.
