Women’s Soccer Lands Three on Capital One Academic All-District Team

ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM

St. Louis, Mo., November 1, 2012 – Washington University in St. Louis had three student-athletes named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District Five Women’s Soccer First Team, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Junior back Kate Doyle, senior goalkeeper Clara Jaques and junior forward Lauren Steimle each took home the accolade for Washington U. Steimle is a repeat selection after earning first-team honors a year ago.

Doyle has started 16 games this season on defense and in the midfield, and is second on the team with five assists. She has also scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the season-opening 2-1 win against Alma College on Aug. 31. A two-time Academic All-UAA selection, Doyle has a 3.84 grade point average while majoring in chemistry.

Jaques has recorded a 15-1-1 record this season with a 0.64 goals against average and six shutouts in 17 starts in goal for the Bears. For her career, Jaques has made 80 career starts and posted a 59-17-6 overall record with a 0.74 goals against average and 25 shutouts. She ranks first in school history in wins and shutouts, second in saves and fifth in goals against average. A three-time Academic All-UAA selection, Jaques has a 3.64 GPA while majoring in economics.

Steimle has appeared in 16 games at forward for the Bears with three goals and an assist for seven points. All three of Steimle’s goals were game winners, including a goal in the 71st minute in a 2-1 win over No. 20 Brandeis University on Oct. 14. A two-time Academic All-UAA honoree, Steimle has a 3.90 GPA while majoring in systems science and engineering.

In order to be selected to an academic all-district team, a student-athlete must demonstrate success on the playing field and in the classroom, with academic and athletic achievements taken into consideration. The student-athlete must possess a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA and be at least a sophomore in academic standing. All three student-athletes will be eligible to be selected to the Academic All-America Team, which will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 27.
