Five-Game Win Streak Snapped in 1-0 Loss at No. 6 Emory

Atlanta, Ga., October 9, 2011 — The No. 9 ranked Washington University in St. Louis women’s soccer team had its five-game winning streak snapped with a 1-0 loss at No. 6 ranked Emory University on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta, Ga.
Emory (9-0-2, 2-0 UAA) outshot Washington U. 18-11 for the contest while each team took two corner kicks. With the victory, the Eagles moved into a tie with the University of Rochester for first place in the University Athletic Association (UAA) standings.
Emory dominated the opening 20 minutes of play, registering six of the first seven shots in the contest. The Eagles struck at the 19:11 mark, when Merrill Bachouros took a cross from Liz Harlan and buried a shot past junior goalkeeper Clara Jaques. The goal for Bachouros was her fifth of the season. Emory outshot Washington U. 11-5 in the first half.
Jaques made seven saves for Washington U. and dropped her overall record to 11-2. Erica Stein (two saves) and Kaele Leonard (five saves) combined for the shutout in goal for the Eagles.
Washington University (11-2, 1-1 UAA) continues its four-game road trip with a pair of conference games next weekend on the East Coast. The Bears take on New York University on Friday, Oct. 14 at 3:30 p.m. (ET), and Brandeis University on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 1:30 p.m. (ET).
