Women's Soccer Ties No. 25 Rochester, 0-0
Rochester, N.Y., October 17, 2010 – The Washington University in St. Louis women’s soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to six games with a 0-0 double overtime tie at No. 25 ranked University of Rochester on Sunday afternoon in Rochester, N.Y.
With the tie, Washington U. falls to second place in the University Athletic Association (UAA) standings with a 2-0-2 (eight points) record. No. 24 ranked University of Chicago picked up a 2-1 victory at Case Western Reserve University on Sunday, vaulting the Maroons into first place with a 3-1 record (nine points). Washington U. and Chicago conclude UAA play on Saturday, Nov. 6, in St. Louis.
Sophomore goalkeeper Clara Jaques made eight saves en route to her sixth shutout of the year. Jaques is 6-4-2 this season in the nets for Washington U., and has not allowed a goal in 575 minutes, a span of seven games.
Rochester (9-3-2, 2-1-1 UAA) outshot Washington U., 18-8, for the game, and had an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Bears totaled just five shots in the first 90 minutes of play, but picked things up in the overtime periods, outshooting UR, 3-1.
Washington University (7-5-2, 2-0-2 UAA) steps out of conference play to host Fontbonne University on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m., and Concordia College (Minn.) on Monday, Oct. 25, at 5 p.m.
Bear Notebook: Washington University is 1-3-2 against ranked teams this season … The Bears have posted a shutout in five of the last six games.
