Associate AD Joe Worlund Named to NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Committee
St. Louis, Mo., September 29, 2011 – Washington University in St. Louis Associate Director of Athletics Joe Worlund has been appointed as a member of the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Committee, the NCAA announced on Monday. Worlund’s term of service on the committee will begin immediately and continue through September 1, 2015.
“I am excited about being selected to serve on the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Committee. I have long had an interest in golf, and it has been exciting watching our Washington University women’s golf team grow and familiarizing myself with the teams, tournaments and rules of NCAA golf,” said Worlund. “It will be an exciting new challenge to serve on the National Committee and work on all the details that go into the discussions, rankings, selections and ultimately the administration of the championship.”
Worlund is in his 30th year in the Washington University Department of Athletics and second as Associate Director of Athletics. He spent 15 years as the Assistant AD before being promoted to his current position on July 1, 2010.
Worlund served as the tournament director for the 2010 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship, held at Washington University, and will assume the responsibilities again in 2011.
Worlund began his tenure on the Danforth Campus in 1982, serving as the Director of Intramural and Club Sports. He held that position for 16 years before being promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics.
Worlund also served as the Assistant Director of Athletics/Recreation from 1995-98. He spent 12 seasons as an assistant women's volleyball coach at Washington University under legendary coach Teri Clemens. Worlund and Clemens teamed up to win seven Division III national championships, including six in a row from 1991-96.
