Bears Fifth at Rain-Shortened Midwest Shootout

Waterloo, Ill., September 26, 2010 – The Washington University in St. Louis women’s golf team shot a 336 to tie for fifth place at the rain-shorted Midwest Shootout held on Sunday, Sept. 26, at Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo, Ill. Washington University was the lone Division III school in the field of 13 teams.
Division II No. 10 ranked University of Indianapolis captured the team title with an 18-hole score of 316, while the University of Missouri-St. Louis was second with a 317. Maryville University (331), Bellarmine University (332) and Washington University (336) and the University of Southern Indiana (336) rounded out the top five.
Freshman Andrea Hibbert continued her strong play in her first season with the Red and Green after firing a team-best 79 to finish in a tie for sixth place. Hibbert has recorded four-straight rounds under 80, and lowered her average to 79.5.
Another freshman, Allyson Chee, shot the second-lowest round of her young career as she carded an 82 for an 16th place finish. Sophomores Hannah Buck (86, 28th place) and Melanie Walsh (89, 39th place) and freshman Marcy Koonce (89, 39th place) rounded out Washington University’s scoring.
Junior Sarah Miller (91, 44th place) and senior Carline Larose (102, 64th place) also competed as individuals for the Bears.
Washington University concludes its fall season on Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 2-3, at the Prairie Star Shootout in Springfield, Ill. The first 18 holes will be played on Saturday at The Rail Golf Course, while the second 18 holes will be played on Sunday at Springfield Piper Glen Golf Course.
