Olivia Lugar and Connie Zhou Lead Women's Golf on Day One at Millikin
RESULTS
Decatur, Ill., September 22, 2012 — Sophomore Olivia Lugar and freshman Connie Zhou each fired a 75 to lead the No. 5 ranked Washington University in St. Louis women’s golf team on day one of the 2012 Millikin University Fall Classic at the Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur, Ill.
Washington University shot a team score of 316 on the opening day and holds an eight-stroke lead over No. 10 ranked Illinois Wesleyan University (324). Illinois Wesleyan JV (339), Carthage College (343) and NCAA Division II Truman State University (348) round out the top five.
Lugar (35-40) and Zhou (38-37) are both tied for second place in the individual standings after firing a season-low round of 75. Gabbi Schuerman of Millikin holds a one-stroke lead after an opening round 74 (35-39).
Junior Andrea Hibbert remains in contention after an 80 (41-39) on the first 18 holes. Hibbert is six shots off the lead and enters the final day of play in a tie for fifth place. Seniors Melanie Walsh (43-43, 86, 18th place) and Hannah Buck (42-45, 87, 28th place) rounded out the starting lineup for Washington U.
Junior Allyson Chee (43-43, 86, 18th place), freshman Erin Lawrence (44-45, 89, 32nd place) and sophomore MacKenzie Findlay (44-45, 89, 32nd place) all competed as individuals.
The final round of the Millikin Fall Classic will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday.
