No. 3 Washington U. Women’s Golf to Host WUSTL Spring Invitational
Madison, Ill., April 5, 2013 – The Washington University in St. Louis women’s golf team hosts the Second Annual WUSTL Spring Invitational, Saturday-Sunday, April 6-7, at Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Ill. Play begins Saturday with a shot gun start at 1 p.m.
The field will include 20 teams from NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior College, with seven of the top-25 teams from NCAA Division III. No. 3 ranked Washington U., No. 6 DePauw, No. 9 Illinois Wesleyan, No. 10 Wittenberg, No. 11 St. Olaf and No. 17 Birmingham Southern all will be in the field, along with NAIA No. 5 Williams Woods University.
William Woods took home first place honors in the 2012 WUSTL Spring Invitational with a 36-hole score of 611, topping host Washington U. on a tiebreaker. Kayla Eckelkamp of Maryville University was the individual champion with a two-day score of 148, breaking a three-way tie with Hannah Buck (Washington U.) and Morgan Lamberson (Drury).
Six of the top-20 golfers in NCAA Division III will also be in action this weekend at Gateway. Sophomore Olivia Lugar of Washington University (76.23, third), senior Molly Erickson of St. Olaf College (77.69, sixth) and Washington U. freshman Connie Zhou (77.69, eighth) will lead a field of 120-plus golfers. Junior Theresa Damico of Olivet College (78.93, 18th), freshman Meg Healy of Rhodes College (79.00, 19th) and junior Paige Gooch of DePauw University (79.00, 19th) will also be in the field.
The tournament will conclude Sunday, with the final round beginning at 9 a.m.
