No. 2 Women’s Golf Leads UIS Spring Shootout After Day One

Springfield, Ill., April 21, 2012 — No. 2 ranked Washington University in St. Louis had four golfers break 80 as the Bears have a 10-stroke lead after the opening round of the University of Illinois-Springfield Shootout held at The Rail Golf Course in Springfield, Ill.
Washington U. fired a 315 on the opening day, and has a double-digit lead over second-place University of Southern Indiana (325). University of Missouri-St. Louis (330), North Central College (338) and host Illinois-Springfield (339) round out the top-five. Maryville University’s Kayla Eckelkamp shot a 75 on the opening 18 and has a two-stroke lead for the individual championship.
Sophomore Andrea Hibbert led the way for Washington U. on day one at UIS, firing a six-over 78 to sit in fourth place, just three shots behind Eckelkamp. Junior Hannah Buck, sophomore Allyson Chee and freshman Olivia Lugar carded a seven-over 79 and sit in a tie for fifth place at four shots back.
Senior Katie Homa rounded out the starting lineup for Washington with a 22-over 94 and is tied for 47th place. The field of 11 teams is made up of eight NCAA Division II schools, two Division III institutions and an NAIA school.
The final round of the UIS Spring Fling will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday.
