Washington University Women’s Golf 11th at NKU Spring Invitational
Perry Park, Ky., March 26, 2011 – The No. 5 ranked Washington University in St. Louis women’s golf team opened the spring season with an 11th place finish (344-319, 663) at the Northern Kentucky University Spring Invitational held on Saturday, March 26, at the Perry Park Golf Club in Perry Park, Ky.
All 36 holes of the tournament were completed on Saturday due to snow in the Perry Park area on Sunday.
Division III No. 2 ranked DePauw University won the event on a fifth score tiebreaker with Division II No. 24 Indianapolis and finished with a team score of 629. Washington U. was one of three Division III schools in the field of 23 teams. Annie Miles of Ashland University won the individual championship with a six-over 150 (73-77).
Washington U. had three top-50 finishers in a field of 129 competitors. Sophomore Hannah Buck rallied from an opening round of 84 to post a 76 in round two to tie for 25th place (+16, 160). Freshmen Andrea Hibbert (84-81, 165, 46th place) and Allyson Chee (86-81, 167, 50th place) also finished in the top 50 for Washington U. The 81 by Chee in the second round tied for a career-low.
Also competing for Washington University was junior Katie Homa (84-88, 172, 68th place), freshman Marcy Koonce (91-81, 172, 68th place) and sophomore Melanie Walsh (90-88, 178, 93rd place).
Washington University returns back to the course on Saturday-Sunday, April 2-3, at the Illinois College Spring Tourney in Jacksonville, Ill.
