Washington U. Women’s Golf Place Fifth at NKU Invitational
RESULTS
Perry Park, Ky., March 25, 2012 — The Washington University in St. Louis women’s golf team took home fifth-place honors at the Northern Kentucky Spring Invitational held at the Perry Park Golf Course on Saturday-Sunday, March 24-25, in Perry Park, Ky.
In a tournament that featured 12 NCAA Division II schools, Washington U. shot a two-day total of 629 (314-315) to improve on its 11th place finish from a year ago. NCAA Division II No. 18 ranked University of Indianapolis led the 18-team field with a total score of 597 (300-297), and the Greyhounds fired two lowest rounds of the tournament.
Ashland University (308-304, 612), Findlay University (310-312, 622), NCAA Division III No. 3 ranked DePauw University (316-308, 624) and NCAA Division III No. 2 ranked Washington U. rounded out the top five. Amy Thompson of Indianapolis won the individual championship with a two-day score of 145 (71-74, +1).
Junior Hannah Buck shaved three strokes off her day one total to finish in a tie for 11th place with a 153 (78 75, +9). Sophomore Andrea Hibbert finished a stroke behind Buck with a 154 (75-79, +10) to tie for 15th place, while freshman Olivia Lugar tied for 18th with a two-day total of 155 (75-79, +11).
Sophomore Allyson Chee tied for 69th place with a score of 170 (88-82, +26), while senior Katie Homa finished in a tie for 77th place with a score of 173 (85-88, +29). Senior Sarah Miller competed as an individual and shot a two-day total of 188 (96-92, +44), good for 101st place.
Washington University hosts the WU Spring Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, March 31-April 1, at Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Ill.
Bear Notebook: Washington U. was one of three Division III schools in the tournament field (DePauw, Wittenberg) … The two-day total of 629 was the Bears’ second-highest score of the year.
