Washington U. Women’s Golf in Fourth Place at NKU Invitational
Perry Park, Ky., March 24, 2012 — The Washington University in St. Louis women’s golf team shot a 314 and sits in fourth place after day one of the Northern Kentucky Spring Invitational held at the Perry Park Golf Course in Perry Park, Ky.
NCAA Division II No. 18 ranked University of Indianapolis leads the 20-team field with an opening round 300. Ashland University (308), Findlay University (310), NCAA Division III No. 2 ranked Washington U. (314) and NCAA Division III No. 3 ranked DePauw University (316) rounds out the top five. Amy Thompson of Indianapolis leads the field with an opening round 71.
Sophomore Andrea Hibbert sits in a four-way tie for second place with a day one score of 75. Leila Marquet (Lewis), Brianna Scheidler (Indianapolis) and Holly James (Ashland) also fired an opening round 75. Freshman Olivia Lugar is a stroke behind Hibbert and is in a seven-way tie for fifth place with a 76.
Junior Hannah Buck (78), senior Katie Homa (85) and sophomore Allyson Chee (88) also competed for the Bears. Buck enters day two just three shots out of second place.
The final round of the Northern Kentucky Spring Invitational will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday.
Bear Notebook: Washington U. is one of three Division III schools in the tournament field … The Bears opening round of 314 is their third highest this season.
