Twitter Time With Senior Melanie Walsh
Q. What is your Twitter handle and how did you come up with it?
A. @MellyMeldubs. A few baseball players went through a bizarre phase of making up fake Twitter handles for people. @THEhbuck was the original. The tweets, mostly by @josetracy, were terrible. Then came @MellyMeldubs. Thankfully before even one single fake tweet, I commandeered it--the perfect excuse for the Twitter debut I always secretly wanted.
Q. How often do you check Twitter?
A. Depends if I'm writing an essay at the time. If so, probably every 10-15 seconds. You never know when someone might tweet something really life changing, and I wouldn't want to miss that just because I had a paper due the next day.
Q. What would you say is your average number of Tweets?
A. I have inspired days, where I'll fire off four tweets in a row. But like any artist, I also have my blue periods. I could go eight days without a single tweetable or interesting thought.
Q. Which of your teammates has the best Tweets and why?
A. Ever since Hannah Buck (@THEhbuck) rescued her Twitter from the baseball boys and changed the password, she's been a steadily increasing force on Twitter. Give her a follow if you know what's good for you. Andi Hibbert (@DaOriginalWaldo), although sometimes known to wax poetic, and Connie Zhou (@zonniecow), although sometimes known to tweet at Ryan Lochte, are also pretty great.
Q. The people I follow in golf are…
A. I follow Sergio Garcia (@TheSergioGarcia), my Spanish-speaking PGA crush. He stopped tweeting back in 2011, but I won't give up hope. I also follow Bubba Watson (@bubbawatson), Rory McIlroy (@McIlroyRory), and Dustin Johnson (@DJohnsonPGA). Oh and @GolfDigestMag because I need all the on-course help I can get.
Q. Someone who you wouldn't think I follow is…
A. @CostcoTweets. Kirkland Signature, people.
Q. The people whose tweets you can't miss…
A. When @josetracy isn't tweeting from fake accounts, he's alright. Other WUSTL athletes that make me laugh: @Plite3, @21Slalom, @DarDar_Banks, @hilpantsky, @nixmartin.
Q. I wish_____were on Twitter.
A. More job opportunities.
Q. What Washington U. coach or staff member do you wish was on Twitter?
A. John Schael. The Pope recently left Twitter, so I believe now is the perfect opportunity for Mr. Schael's debut.
Q. Describe your Twitter followers.
A. Loyal friends who throw me the bone of a favorite or retweet every now and again to keep my fragile self-esteem afloat.
