St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 10, 2012 - The Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball team spent part of the day on Saturday, Sept. 8, working for North Grand Neighborhood Services (NGNS) in St. Louis, helping with various service projects through the organization.
NGNS promotes the dignity of low-income persons and the community in which they share by developing affordable housing, employment and training opportunities for youth, and other community initiatives. The organization performs home improvement projects to prepare homes for low-income families near the St. Theresa and Bridget Church in St. Louis. NGNS also creates community spaces, such as a garden and a playground.
The members of the Washington University women’s basketball team helped the staff at NGNS on Saturday by leveling soil on the playground, digging and pouring concrete for fence posts, performing various yard work, and sorting through old board games.
North Grand Neighborhood Services also has various programs for children, including getting them involved in building fences baking cookies to sell (Angel Baked Cookies). More information about the NGNS and its community involvement can be found on the organization’s website, www.ngns.org.
