Janice Evans Named Finalist for WBCA All-America Honors
ALL-AMERICA FINALISTS
St. Louis Mo., March 9, 2010 – Senior forward Janice Evans of the No. 6 Washington University in St. Louis women’s basketball team was selected as one of 40 finalists for 2010 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division III All-America honors, as announced Tuesday by the association.
The 40 finalists, who are voted upon by WBCA member coaches in each of the eight WBCA geographical regions are now in the running for selection to the 10-member State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team. The 2010 All-America team will be presented at the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship Banquet on Thursday, March 18, at The Chateau Hotel in Bloomington, Ill.
This season, Evans ranks second at Washington University in scoring at 10.3 points per game, and rebounding, with 6.2 rebounds per contest. Last week, she earned All-University Athletic Association (UAA) honors for the third-year in a row, being named to the conference’s second team. She scored a career-high 23 points in a win over Fontbonne University earlier this season.
Last weekend, Evans scored in double-figures in back-to-back games to help lead Washington University to wins in the first two rounds of the 2010 NCAA Division III Tournament and a berth into the sectional round. She had 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting to go along with nine rebounds as Washington U. defeated Maryville College (Tenn.) in the opening round on March 5, in Crestview Hills, Ky., and followed that up with 11 points and five rebounds against 13th-ranked regional host Thomas More College on March 6.
Washington U. (25-2) has been selected to host the 2010 NCAA Division III sectionals, to be held Friday-Saturday. March 12-13, at the WU Field House in St. Louis, Mo. Defending NCAA Division III Champion and fifth-ranked George Fox University will face No. 14 Carthage College in the first sectional semifinal on Friday at 5 p.m., while Washington University will face Mount Union College in the night’s other semifinal at 7 p.m.
