Unruh Earns ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Honors
St. Louis, Mo., February 4, 2010 – Senior Zoë Unruh of the No. 6 Washington University in St. Louis women’s basketball team earned ESPN the Magazine Second-Team All-District VII honors, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
It is the second time in her career and the first since 2008 that Unruh earns Academic All-District recognition. She was a third-team Academic All-District VII honoree as a sophomore.
An environmental studies major with a 3.88 cumulative grade point average (GPA), Unruh leads Washington University in scoring at 11.3 points per games. She is also averaging a team-high 1.8 three-point baskets per game, which ranks fourth in the University Athletic Association (UAA), to go along with 4.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest.
Unruh is coming off the best performance of her career, as she poured in a career-high 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting as Washington University defeated Emory University, 70-60, on Sunday, Jan. 31, in Atlanta, Ga. Also securing 10 rebounds against Emory, Unruh recorded the second double-double of her career and the first since Dec. 15, 2007, and she tied her career-high with five three-pointers.
To be eligible for Academic All-District consideration, a student-athlete must have achieved at least sophomore academic standing and a cumulative GPA of 3.3.
Washington U. (16-2, 6-1 UAA) returns to action on Friday, Feb. 5, when it hosts the University of Rochester for a crucial UAA contest at the WU Field House in St. Louis, Mo., at 6 p.m.
