Washington University’s Melissa Gilkey Named D3Hoops.com Preseason All-American

St. Louis, Mo., November 13, 2012 – Washington University in St. Louis sophomore forward Melissa Gilkey was selected to the 2013 D3Hoops.com Women’s Basketball Preseason All-America honorable mention team, as announced by the website.

Gilkey, who was honored as the 2012 D3Hoops.com Central Region and University Athletic Association (UAA) Rookie of the Year, was one of two UAA players to receive 2013 Preseason All-America recognition from D3Hoops.com. Emory University’s Hannah Lilly was named to the second team.

Gilkey earned second-team all-UAA honors for Washington U. in 2012, starting all 27 games for the Bears in her rookie season. She finished second on the team in scoring (10.9 ppg), while leading the Bears in rebounding (7.3 per game). Gilkey also led Washington U. with 38 blocked shots a year ago, which ranks ninth in program history for a single season.

Washington University begins the 2012-13 season by hosting the 12th Annual McWilliams Classic Friday-Saturday, Nov. 16-17. The Bears take on Buena Vista University at 7 p.m. Friday in the season opener for both teams. All four games during the McWilliams Classic will be broadcast live on the Bear Sports Network.
