Senior Erin Albers Named Third-Team Academic All-District VII
St. Louis, Mo., November 5, 2009 –Senior middle hitter Erin Albers of the No. 3 Washington University in St. Louis volleyball team earned third-team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VII honors, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
An accounting and finance major with a 3.43 cumulative grade point average, Albers earns Academic All-District honors for the first time in her career. Having a stellar senior season in the Washington University front court, Albers leads the team with 318 kills, an average of 3.46 per set, and a .378 hitting percentage.
She also ranks second on the team with 85 total blocks (28 solo, 57 assists) for an average of 0.92 per set. In order for a student-athlete to qualify for an Academic All-District Team, they must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30.
Albers has steadily been climbing the Washington University all-time leader board this season in a number of categories. She ranks 10th in school history with a career hitting percentage of .360. She also is ninth at Washington U. in block assists (253) and tied for eighth in solo blocks (91).
Washington U. (25-3) returns to action on Friday, Nov. 6, when it begins competition in the 2009 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship Tournament in Chicago, Ill. The Bears face the University of Rochester at 12 p.m., and Case Western Reserve University at 2 p.m.
