Vincent Novicki Named AVCA Grant Burger Media Award Winner for Central Region
St. Louis, Mo., May 25, 2011 — For the fourth-straight year, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced that Washington University in St. Louis assistant sports information director Vincent Novicki has been selected as a recipient of the AVCA Grant Burger Media Award winner for the Central Region. Novicki was one of eight award winners in Division III women’s volleyball.
Novicki, who his completing his fourth year on the Danforth Campus, handles all publicity for baseball, men's and women's cross country, men's soccer, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's track and field, volleyball, women's basketball and women's tennis teams at Washington University.
He was responsible for all promotion and publicity of the 2010 NCAA Division III Final Four participant Washington University volleyball team. Washington U. posted a 35-4 overall record, and had five student-athletes named to the AVCA All-America Team. Since joining the Danforth Campus four years ago, Novicki has coordinated media efforts for the 2007 and 2009 NCAA Division III National Championship teams while the Bears have posted a 134-20 (.870) overall record.
The AVCA Grant Burger Media Award is an honor intended to recognize members of the media who have been involved in the advancement of the sport of volleyball, whether it be through consistent coverage in all mediums (sports information, print, broadcasting and web content), production of volleyball-specific publications or extensive radio and/or television exposure.
It is named in honor of Grant Burger, former Director of Sports Information and Associate Director of the AVCA (1988-92), whose hard work, innovative mind, knowledge and enthusiasm took the areas of media relations and publications at the AVCA to a higher level and increased awareness of the sport of volleyball nationwide.
