Three Washington University Volleyball Players Honored on AVCA All-Region Team

St. Louis, Mo., November 8, 2012 – Three members of the No. 3-ranked Washington University in St. Louis volleyball team were named to the 2012 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III All-Central Region Team, as announced Thursday by the Association.

Senior setter Marilee Fisher, senior outside hitter Drew Hargrave and senior libero Kelly Pang each received the accolade. Fisher and Pang became the third and fourth players in school history to be named to the All-Region team for four-straight years, joining Jennifer Martz (1995-98) and Colleen Winter (2001-04). Hargrave was selected for the third year in a row. Earlier this week, the trio was also named to the all-University Athletic Association (UAA) first team.

Fisher ranks second in the UAA and 19th in Division III averaging 10.52 assists per set. She also ranks second on the team with 28 service aces and third with 183 digs. Fisher’s 4,472 career assists ranks fourth on Washington University’s all-time list.

Hargrave ranks second in the UAA and 45th in NCAA Division III with 3.77 kills per set this season. She became the 22nd player in school history to surpass 1,000 career kills in a win over Case Western Reserve University Sept. 30. Hargrave currently ranks ninth on Washington U.’s career attacks list (3,118) and 10th on the single-season attacks leaderboard (1,031). She was named the D3VB National Player of the Week Sept. 10 and has been named the UAA Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week four times in 2012.

Pang is the Bears’ all-time career digs leader (2,486) and holds four of the top-eight single-season digs marks in school history. She broke her own single-match digs record (47) Oct. 13 against University of Chicago. Pang leads the UAA and ranks 13th in Division III with 6.04 digs per set this season, while also ranking second in the conference with 0.41 aces per set. She has been named the UAA Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week six times this season.

Washington University (29-3) begins play in the 2012 NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship by traveling to Elmhurst, Ill., for the Elmhurst Regional Friday-Sunday, Nov. 9-11. The Bears take on College of Mount St. Joseph in the opening round at 3 p.m. Friday.
