Marilee Fisher Earns ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VII Honors
St. Louis, Mo., November 4, 2010 – Sophomore setter Marilee Fisher of the No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis volleyball team earned ESPN the Magazine third-team academic all-district VII honors, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
In order to be selected to an academic all-district team, a student-athlete must demonstrate success on the playing field and in the classroom, with academic and athletic achievements taken into consideration. The student-athlete must possess a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average and be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Fisher is enrolled in the Washington University in St. Louis College of Arts & Sciences and carries a 3.75 GPA.
Fisher, who was a second-team American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America selection as a freshman, has established herself as one of the premier setters in Division III.
In 26 matches this season, Fisher has accrued 922 assists for an average of 11.67 per set, which ranks second in Division III. As the primary setter for Washington University, the Bears have a team hitting percentage of .277, which ranks eighth in the country.
Fisher was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week on Sept. 12, and has been selected to the Washington University Classic, Washington University National Invitational, DePauw University Invitational and Washington University Invitational all-tournament teams in 2010.
Washington U. (28-2, 5-2 UAA) returns to action for the 2010 UAA Championship, to be hosted Friday-Saturday, Nov. 5-6, on the campus of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
