WUSTL’s Caroline Dupont Tabbed AVCA Division III National Player of the Week
St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 10, 2013 – Washington University in St. Louis freshman middle hitter Caroline Dupont was selected as the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III National Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the organization.
Dupont, who was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Player of the Week Monday, is the first freshman to be tabbed AVCA Division III National Player of the Week since Oct. 21, 2008, when Rebecca Kamp of Calvin College received the honor. It marks the 25th time a Washington University student-athlete has been selected for the award. Dupont joins Colleen Winter (Sept. 17, 2001) as the only two players in school history to receive the honor in their first collegiate seasons.
Dupont had a dominant weekend in leading No. 7 Washington U. to wins over Ohio Northern University, No. 21 Pacific Lutheran University and No. 3 Wittenberg University, and was selected to the WU/ASICS National Invitational all-tournament team for her performance. She posted a .500 hitting percentage with 42 kills and just five errors on 74 swings in the three victories for the Bears. During Saturday’s wins over Pacific Lutheran and Wittenberg, Dupont hit a blistering .589 with 35 kills and just two errors on 56 attacks. She also recorded a career-high seven blocks against the Lutes and posted a career-best six digs against Wittenberg.
