Washington U.’s Anna Etherington, Erica Jackey Named UAA Athletes of the Week
St. Louis, Mo., May 30, 2012 – Washington University in St. Louis sophomore Anna Etherington and senior Erica Jackey were selected as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, as announced by the Association.
Etherington earned her fourth UAA Outdoor Athlete of the Week honors of the season after finishing fourth in the women’s pole vault at the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She earned All-America honors by clearing a height of 4.00 meters, which was just one centimeter shy of her own school record in the event. Etherington also placed fourth in the pole vault at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Jackey received UAA Outdoor Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season after a record-breaking weekend at the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She became the first track & field athlete in school history to earn All-America honors in more than two events at the same championship, recording three top-seven finishes within three hours on May 26.
Jackey raced to a third-place finish in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:27.81, which was just .08 off her career best. She then added a seventh-place finish in the 800 in 2:09.73. Just more than an hour later, she earned her third All-America honors of the day with a fifth-place finish in the 5,000 in 17:07.11. Jackey also broke her own school record in the 800 with a time of 2:09.36 in the prelims.
