RESULTS

Naperville, Ill., May 21, 2010 –Senior Molly Schlamb of the Washington University in St. Louis women’s outdoor track and field team broke the school record in the 1,500-meter run at the North Central College Gregory Invitational on Friday, May 21, in Naperville, Ill.

Members of the Bears’ men’s and women’s outdoor track teams were competing at the Gregory as one final warm-up before the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, set to begin next week in Berea, Ohio.

Schlamb bested sophomore Liz Phillips’ record in the 1,500, which was set just last week on the same track. Schlamb submitted a time of 4:28.16, automatically qualifying for the 2010 NCAA Championships in the process, and eclipsing Phillips’ record-setting mark of 4:28.90. Her performance on Friday ranks as the third fastest 1,500 time in Division III this season.

Phillips turned in an impressive 800-meter time at the Gregory Invitational, greatly improving her chances of qualifying to compete in the event at the NCAA’s. She finished fifth overall in the 800 with a time of 2:11.33, falling just 0.33 shy of meeting the automatic NCAA qualification standards and also improving on her previous season-best mark of 2:12.90. Phillips’ time from Friday stands at No. 8 among the 800-meter times posted in Division III in 2010.

Other top times for the WUSTL women came from junior Kelli Blake, who finished 10th in the 800 with a provisional qualifying mark of 2:13.81, and junior Jessica Londeree, placing fifth in the 5,000 with an NCAA provisional time of 17:21.18.

On the men’s side, sophomore hurdler Tyler Jackson had a strong warm-up for the NCAA Championships in the 110-meter hurdles, turning in a time of 14.70 in the preliminaries.

Senior Chris Malaya had a season-best performance in the 400-meter, posting a mark of 49.04, and graduate student Pierre Hoppenot finished fourth in the 200-meter with a time of 22.14.

The qualifiers for the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be released on Sunday, May 23, at www.raceberryjam.com. The NCAA Outdoor Championship meet will be held Thursday-Saturday, May 27-29, on the campus of Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.
