Anne Diaz-Arrastia, Michael Ellenberger Shine for WUSTL Track Teams at Keeler Invite
Naperville, Ill., May 11, 2013 – Senior Anne Diaz-Arrastia broke the school record in the women’s long jump and junior Michael Ellenberger ran the third-fastest time in school history in the men’s 10,000 to highlight the performances by the Washington University in St. Louis track & field teams at the Dr. Keeler Invitational hosted by North Central College Thursday-Friday.
Diaz-Arrastia recorded a leap of 5.76 meters to win the women’s long jump and break the Washington University school record of 5.74m set by Kammie Holt in 2003. The mark also ranks seventh in NCAA Division III this season. Diaz-Arrastia added a runner-up finish in the triple jump with a leap of 11.35m
Ellenberger shaved more than 15 seconds off his previous best to finish second in the men’s 10,000 with a time of 30:21.96. His time ranks third all-time at Washington University and is 20th in NCAA Division III this season. Senior David Hamm clocked a time of 30:57.10 to finish fifth in the race.
Junior Jasmine Williams finished sixth in the long jump with a mark of 5.18m, and also tied for first in the women’s high jump with a clearance of 1.63m. Three other Washington U. women posted runner-up finishes at the meet. Freshman Emily Warner clocked a season-best time of 2:12.27 to finish second in the 800. Her time ranks 12th in NCAA Division III this season.
Sophomore Melissa Gilkey recorded a throw of 40.96m to place second in the women’s javelin. Junior Anna Etherington finished as the runner-up in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.69m, while sophomore Claire Simons tied for third at 3.39m.
Sophomore Connor Duermit finished third in the men’s javelin with a throw of 57.09m. Sophomores Garrett Patrick (14:48.28) and Ryan Senci (14:49.44) both posted season-best times to finish ninth and 10th, respectively, in the men’s 5,000.
The Washington University in St. Louis men’s and women’s track & field teams compete in their final regular-season meet Thursday-Friday, May 16-17, at the Gregory Invitational in Naperville, Ill.
