Washington University Picks Up UAA Outdoor Track & Field Honors
St. Louis, Mo., May 1, 2013 — Washington University in St. Louis freshman Emily Warner was named the 2013 University Athletic Association (UAA) Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Year, while head coach Jeff Stiles and his assistants were selected as the UAA Men’s Outdoor Coaching Staff of the Year, as announced Wednesday by the Association.
Warner was selected as the Women’s Rookie of the Year after earning all-UAA honors in four events. She won the UAA title in the 400 with a Washington University school-record time of 55.99, which ranks fifth in NCAA Division III this season and was more than a second faster than the runner-up finisher. Warner also ran a season-best time to finish as the runner-up in the 200, and also anchored the Washington U. 400 and 1,600 relays to runner-up finishes.
In addition, Stiles and assistant coaches Lane Lohr, Aubrey Edwards-Luce, Danny Edwards-Luce, Zach Griffen, Laith Hoffarth, John Laughlin, Kelly Lovett, Scott Pettit, Gordon Reiter, Nich Steinbach and Andy Weatherford were named the UAA Men’s Outdoor Coaching Staff of the Year after leading Washington University to its fifth UAA men’s team title in a row. It marks the fourth-straight year Stiles and his assistants have received the award.
