Cheadle and Etherington Earn UAA Athlete of the Week Honors

St. Louis, Mo., April 3, 2012 – Washington University in St. Louis freshman Lucy Cheadle and sophomore Anna Etherington were selected as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, as announced by the Association.

Cheadle earned the honor after defeating 96 other athletes to win the women’s 5,000-meter run at the Washington University Invitational over the weekend. She finished the race in a time of 17:10.23 to win by nearly 15 seconds. Cheadle’s time ranks third all-time in the event in Washington University history and is the fastest time in NCAA Division III this season.

Etherington improved her outdoor personal-best by 19 centimeters to win the women’s pole vault over 17 other competitors at the Washington University Invitational. She cleared 3.75 meters on her first attempt at the meet. The performance was a career-best for Etherington and ranks second in Washington University school history, just one centimeter shy of the school record. Etherington ranks fourth on this season’s NCAA Division III performance list with the mark.
