Elizabeth Phillips, Erica Jackey Highlight Washington U. Track & Field Performances at NCC Last Chance Meet
Naperville, Ill., March 2, 2012 – Washington University in St. Louis seniors Elizabeth Phillips and Erica Jackey both broke the school record in the women’s mile to highlight the Washington U. track & field team’s performances at the NCC Last Chance Meet on Friday.
Phillips won the women’s mile by breaking her own school record with a time of 4:54.15, edging Jackey who finished in a time of 4:54.16. Both times were better than Phillips’ previous school record of 4:55.32 set in 2010. The times also put Phillips and Jackey in third and fourth in NCAA Division III this season.
Senior Tyler Jackson and sophomore Jasmine Williams both earned first-place finishes at the NCC Last Chance Meet as well. Jackson won the men’s 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.26 seconds, while Williams tied for first in the women’s high jump with a clearance of 1.66 meters.
Senior Amanda Matheson finished fifth in the women’s pentathlon with a personal-best score of 3,019. Her point total was the second-best all-time at Washington U., ranking only behind Alli Alberts’ school-record of 3,245.
Sophomore Sarah Fisher clocked a season-best time of 17:38.40 to place third in the women’s 5,000. Senior Justin Pieper equaled his season-best by clearing 2.00m to finish third in the men’s high jump.
The Washington U. track & field teams will await the official announcement of qualifiers for the 2012 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships to be made on Monday, March 5, before traveling to Grinnell, Iowa, to compete in the NCAA Championships on Friday-Saturday, March 9-10.
