Washington University Track and Field Receives UAA Accolades

St. Louis, Mo., February 28, 2012 — Washington University in St. Louis senior Erica Jackey was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women’s Indoor Track & Field Most Outstanding Runner, while head coach Jeff Stiles and his assistants were selected as the UAA Men’s and Women’s Coaching Staff of the Year.
Jackey received the UAA Women’s Most Outstanding Performer award in the running events after winning two individual titles at the UAA Indoor Track & Field Championships held on Feb. 25-26. She set a UAA record with a time of 2:12.60 to win the 800-meter run, and added a first-place finish in the mile with a time of 5:00.22. Jackey was also a member of Washington U.’s distance medley relay team that won the conference title with a UAA record time of 12:01.04.
In addition, Stiles and assistant coaches Lane Lohr, Robert Butler, Laith Hoffarth, Scott Pettit, Chris Pedi, John Laughlin and Zach Griffen were named the UAA Coaching Staff of the Year for both the men and the women. Stiles and his assistants led Washington University to a sweep of the men’s and women’s UAA indoor team titles last weekend. It marked the 11th UAA title for the Washington U. women, and the 12th for the men, including the last three in a row.
