Washington University’s Lucy Cheadle Selected as UAA Women’s Most Outstanding Indoor Track & Field Runner
St. Louis, Mo., Feb. 27, 2013 — Washington University in St. Louis sophomore Lucy Cheadle was selected as the 2013 University Athletic Association (UAA) Women’s Indoor Track & Field Most Outstanding Runner, as announced Wednesday by the Association.
Cheadle received the UAA Women’s Most Outstanding Performer award in the running events after winning a pair of individual events at the conference championships held Feb. 23-24 at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She raced to first place in the women’s 5,000 with a time of 17:04.20, more than 10 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Cheadle’s time bettered the previous school record of 17:07.80 set by Emily Richard in 1999, and also broke the UAA meet record of 17:04.80 set in 2010. She added a first-place finish in the 3,000 with a time of 10:06.40 the following day.
