WUSTL's Erica Jackey, Justin Pieper Named UAA Athletes of the Week

St. Louis, Mo., January 24, 2012 – Washington University in St. Louis seniors Erica Jackey and Justin Pieper were selected as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women’s and Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, as announced by the Association.
Jackey earned the Women’s Athlete of the Week honor after a record-setting performance at the Illinois Wesleyan Triangular on Jan. 21. She clocked a school-record time of 2:14.14 to finish second in the 800 meters at the meet. Jackey also raced to a first-place finish in the mile (5:06.40) to lead the Washington U. women to a narrow two-point win over Illinois Wesleyan University in the triangular. Jackey’s time in the 800 is the third-fastest time in NCAA Division III this season, while her mile time ranks fifth on the Division III performance list.
Pieper cleared a season-best height of 2.00 meters to win the men’s high jump at the Illinois Wesleyan Triangular, which helped him earn UAA Men’s Athlete of the Week honors. His win in the high jump was his third in as many meets this season, and helped the WUSTL men win the triangular over Illinois Wesleyan and University of Chicago. Pieper’s mark of 2.00 meters ranks eighth on the NCAA Division III performance list this season.
