Washington U. Swimming & Diving Teams Open Season Against Saint Louis University
RESULTS
St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 28, 2012 – The Washington University in St. Louis men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams both fell in their season-opening dual meets against NCAA Division I Saint Louis University on Friday evening at Millstone Pool in St. Louis.
Saint Louis University won both the men’s and women’s duals, outscoring the Washington University men 140.5-86.5 and the women 147-84. The Washington U. teams combined to win five events in the dual, including taking the top two spots in three of them.
Junior Grace Murray won the women’s 1,000-meter freestyle with a time of 11:07.00, while freshman Grace Counts finished second in 11:12.28. A pair of Washington U. sophomores took the top two spots in the men’s 1,000 free. Zane Turpin won the race in 10:02.62, while Luke Dobben touched the wall in 10:06.88 to take second.
Kristalyn McAfee was the lone freshman to win a race for the Bears, taking first in the women’s 100 freestyle in 54.14, while junior Jennifer Tartavull followed in second in 54.90.
Senior Brendan Morin won the men’s 100 butterfly in 52.88, and junior Brian Carpenter was the final event winner for Washington U., placing first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.47.
Washington University returns to action at the Show-Me Showdown on Friday, Oct. 5 in Columbia, Mo.
