Washington University Swimming Teams Qualify 11 for NCAA Championships

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

St. Louis, Mo., March 5, 2013 – The Washington University in St. Louis men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams will be represented by 11 individuals at the 2013 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships Wednesday-Saturday, March 20-23 at Conroe Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas.

The Washington U. men had three individual qualifiers – sophomores Luke Dobben and Zane Turpin, and freshman Reed Dalton. Each of them are set to compete in three events at the meet. On the women’s side, Washington University will be represented by juniors Chi Pham, Allison Siegel and Jenn Tartavull; sophomore Sara Taege; and freshmen Katie Anderson, Grace Counts, Kristalyn McAfee and Toireasa Rafferty-Millett. In addition, freshman Amanda Stadermann is the first alternate for the meet, and will swim the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly and 200 individual medley if she is selected.

Six individuals and a relay will be in action on the meet’s opening day, March 20. Dobben qualified fourth to compete in the men’s 500 freestyle. Taege, who qualified seventh, and Counts will compete in the women’s 500 free. Pham qualified 13th in the women’s 200 individual medley, and McAfee will also race in that event. Dalton is scheduled to compete in the 50 freestyle on the first day of the meet. The WUSTL women will also swim in the 200-medley relay March 20.

On the second day, March 21, five individuals and two relays are scheduled to compete. The women’s 200-free relay team of Anderson, McAfee, Tartavull and Siegel qualified 10th, and the Washington U. women will also compete in the 400-medley relay during day two. Turpin is scheduled to compete in the men’s 400 individual medley, while Taege will compete in the women’s 400 IM. Dalton qualified 19th to swim in the men’s 100 butterfly. McAfee qualified seventh in the 200 freestyle, and will be joined in the event by Counts.

Washington U. will have six individuals and a relay competing March 22. Dobben and Turpin will represent the Washington U. men in the 200 butterfly, while Taege and Rafferty-Millett will compete in the 200 butterfly for the WUSTL women. Anderson and Pham are scheduled to compete in the 100 backstroke on day three. In addition, the women’s 800-free relay team of Taege, Counts, McAfee and Rafferty-Millett qualified seventh and will compete March 22.

The Bears will close out the meet with six individuals and a relay competing March 23. Dalton will swim in the men’s 100 freestyle, while McAfee and Pham will compete in the women’s 100 freestyle. Anderson is set to swim in the 200 backstroke. Turpin and Dobben qualified third and fifth, respectively, to compete in the men’s 1,650 freestyle. Anderson, Tartavull, Counts and McAfee qualified 11th to compete in the women’s 400-free relay on the final day of the championships as well.

Trials are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. each day, with finals beginning at 6 p.m.
