David Chao Named CollegeSwimming.com National Swimmer of the Week
St. Louis, Mo., November 3, 2010 — Senior David Chao of the Washington University in St. Louis men’s swimming and diving team was named the CollegeSwimming.com Division III Counsilman Hunsaker National Swimmer of the Week, as announced by the website on Wednesday.
Chao earns National Swimmer of the Week honors for the first time in his career, and is the first Washington University student-athlete to accomplish the feat since Alex Beyer on Dec. 9, 2009.
Chao earned three first-place finishes, two individual and one relay, in addition to a runner-up showing to lead Washington University to a first place finish at the four team Centre College Midwest Classic on Saturday, Oct. 30, in Louisville, Ky.
He won the 200-freestyle (1:44.98) and the 100-yard freestyle (47.62), in addition to swimming the final leg for the first-place 400-freestyle relay team (3:10.91), where he swam with freshman Jason Wan, senior Kartik Anjur and sophomore Mark Minowitz. Chao also placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (21.62)
The Washington U. men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams return to action next Saturday, Nov. 6, when they host the University of Chicago in a dual meet at the Millstone Pool in St. Louis, Mo., beginning at 1 p.m.
