Zane Turpin Leads WUSTL Swimming at Drury Invitational
RESULTS
Springfield, Mo., November 19, 2011 – The Washington University in St. Louis men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed in the 2011 Drury Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 18-19, held at Drury University in Springfield, Mo.
The women’s team finished in third place of three teams with 714 points, while the men’s side finished fourth out of four teams with 505.5 points.
Freshman Zane Turpin delivered the Bears’ best performance of the weekend. Turpin’s time of 9:44.84 was good for second place in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
The men’s team got a third place performance from senior Mike Rao, totaling 437.30 points in the three-meter diving competition. The men also had two fourth place finishes.
The women’s 200-yard freestyle relay team took home third-place honors. The Bears’ ‘A’ team of freshman Jennifer Tartavull, sophomore Chi Pham, sophomore Allison Siegel and freshman Katie Crist finished in 1:40.62, 2.31 seconds off the pace.
Freshman Sara Taege delivered the women’s team’s other third place finish, with a time of 2:14.43 in the 200-yard butterfly. The Bears also had six fourth place finishes.
The Washington University swimming and diving teams return to action on Friday-Saturday, Dec. 2-3, at the Wheaton Invitational in Wheaton, Ill. The meet will start at 9:30 a.m. on Friday.
