Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Competes at Missouri Show-Me Showdown
Columbia, Mo., October 8, 2011 —The Washington University in St. Louis men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were in competition at the University of Missouri Show-Me Showdown on Saturday, Oct. 8, in an annual early season meet that showcases swimming and diving squads from across the state of Missouri that compete at all three NCAA divisions.
The Washington University women’s team turned in three top-10 performances in relay events. Freshman Jennifer Tartavull, sophomore Chi Pham, junior Veronica Tse and sophomore Allison Siegel placed seventh in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.64.
Pham, senior Catherine Rafferty-Millett, sophomore Grace Murray and Tartavull turned in a time of 1:53.64 to come in 8th in the 200-medley relay, and the team of Pham, Siegel, senior Amy Vanlishout and Tse placed ninth in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:44.34.
On the men’s side the Bears saw a pair of ninth-place relay swims. In the 200-medley relay sophomore Jason Wan, sophomore Brian Carpenter, junior Brendan Morin and junior Mark Minowitz turned in a time of 1:37.57, and Morin, freshman Peter Qin, Wan and Minowitz finished the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:28.99.
In individual races, Pham grabbed seventh place in the 75-yard butterfly (43.39) and placed 12th in the 300-yard individual medley (3:29.35). Sophomore Meghan Lam came in 12th in the 75-yard backstroke (47.64), sophomore Paige VanTassell finished 11th in the 400-yard freestyle (4;19.58) and Murray was 12th in the 400-freestyle (4:20.80).
Morin recorded a top-10 finish in the men’s 75-yard butterfly, finishing in eighth in 37.89. Carpenter finished 12th in the 150-yard breaststroke (1:38.58), freshman Adam Seroka was 13th in the 400-freestyle (3:50.46) and freshman Luke Dobben was 14th in the 400-free (3:51.01).
The Washington University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams return to action on Saturday, Oct. 29, when they host DePauw University for a dual meet at the Millstone Pool in St. Louis, Mo., at 1 p.m.
