Men's Swim Team Picks Up 124-74 Victory Over Wabash College

St. Louis, Mo., January 12, 2011 — The Washington University in St. Louis men’s swimming and diving team captured first place in seven of a possible 13 events en route to a 124-75 victory over Wabash College on Wednesday evening at the Millstone Pool in St. Louis, Mo.
The Bears used impressive performances in each of the individual freestyle races to the win. Washington U. took first in five of six freestyle events with the 400-free relay standing as the only exception.
Senior David Chao and junior Chris Valach each picked up a pair of race victories for Washington University on Wednesday. Chao won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.23 and the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 47.72, while Valach won the 200-freestyle in 1:47.23 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:47.82.
Freshman Alex Cox completed the freestyle sweep for Washington University, capturing the 1,000-yard race with a time of 10:08.31, while freshman Tyler Perez provided the Bears with their sixth individual win in the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.09).
Washington University also grabbed first in the 400-medley relay, with senior Kartik Anjur, freshman Brian Carpenter, senior Michael Flanagan and sophomore Brendan Morin turning in a time of 3:35.33.
The Washington University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will return to action this Friday-Saturday, Jan. 14-15, for the 27th Annual Washington University Invitational. Friday evening’s session is set to begin at 6 a.m., with Saturday’s action scheduled for 11 a.m.
