Bears Land Five on NFCA All-Midwest Region Team

St. Louis, Mo., May 14, 2010 – The No. 17 ranked Washington University in St. Louis softball team had five players named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Midwest Region Team, as announced by the Association.
Seniors Ally Berenter and Megan Fieser and junior Claire Voris were named to the first team, while senior Ashton Hitchcock and sophomore Corissa Santos earned second-team honors.
Berenter has started all 44 games this season – 23 games at third base and 21 games as the designated player – and was selected as the first-team utility player. She is batting .354 with nine doubles, five home runs and 37 RBIs this season.
A 2010 first-team all-University Athletic Association (UAA) honoree, Fieser leads the UAA in batting average (.469), hits (67) and stolen bases (31) and is third in on-base percentage (.486). She recorded a 22-game hitting streak midway through the season, which is the second longest in school history.
Voris, the 2010 UAA Most Valuable Player, has an 18-6 overall record with a 1.99 earned run average in 22 starts for the Bears. She has struck out a conference-best 202 batters in 161 2/3 innings pitched, while holding opponents to a .220 batting average. Voris is also having a career year at the plate, batting .385 with four home runs and 25 RBIs.
Hitchcock is batting .379 with a team-best eight home runs and a conference-best 45 runs scored, 51 RBIs and 96 total bases. A first-team all-UAA selection, she also ranks 33rd in Division III in RBIs.
Santos has started 41 games for the Bears and leads the team in slugging percentage (.641) and is second in batting average (.420) and on-base percentage (.480). A first-team all-UAA selection, she leads the conference and is second in Division III with 20 doubles.
